Chief Engineer – Family Life Radio

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Chief Engineer is responsible for the installation and maintenance of broadcast equipment systems utilized at the FLC Broadcast Center and at FLC AM and FM transmission sites in compliance with applicable FCC regulations and good engineering practice.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Installs, maintains, repairs, and upgrades broadcast equipment consisting of, but not limited to; audio routing, systems, consoles, program delivery automation systems, digital audio satellite up-link systems, AM/FM transmission systems, and associated equipment to insure reliable operation from the FLC broadcast center
Serves as On-Call Engineer on a rotating basis with Engineering staff; responds to FLC technical emergency problems with FLC stations at any of our locations; may require overnight, weekend and holiday work, as needed.
Coordinates with the Director of Engineering, Engineering staff and FLC contract engineers to ensure stations’ technical emergencies are quickly resolved.
Shares the responsibility with Engineering staff the duties of FCC Designated Chief Operator to insure compliance with FCC requirements for EAS and station logging.
Investigates interference issues; provides/implements recommendations for resolution.
Performs and documents preventive maintenance of the Tucson Broadcast Center systems as well as all AM/ FM transmitter and translator sites.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provides support and back-up to the Broadcast Engineer/IT Specialist on our Broadcast  IT systems equipment that is part of the Tucson Broadcast Center.
Performs the engineering set-up for Sharathon fundraising drives
Collaborates with the Facilities Department; assists in meeting mutual goals between Engineering and Facilities, as needed.
Provides instruction to applicable staff regarding technical operation of broadcast equipment and any systems changes, as needed.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field; or equivalent education and experience.
Minimum five (5) years successfully maintaining multiple high power AM and FM transmission systems, including directional AM arrays, resulting in legal and stable technical performance meeting good engineering practices.
Minimum three (3) years with network or station group engineering experience.
Minimum three (3) years of satellite uplink experience.
SBE Certified Broadcast Radio Engineer™ – (CBRE™) or ability to obtain within 12 months.
SBE Certified AM Directional Specialist™ – (AMD™) or ability to obtain within 12 months.
SBE Certified Broadcast Networking Engineer™ (CBNE™) or ability to obtain within 12 months.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Proven ability to troubleshoot audio, and RF circuits utilizing schematic diagrams.
Proven ability to perform RF/audio proof of AM and/or FM audio transmission system.
Knowledge of AM and FM RF directional and non-directional transmission systems.
Highly skilled in configuring, troubleshooting and maintaining radio studio systems including on-air telephone systems, microphone processors, digital audio routing and console systems.
Knowledge of configuration and troubleshooting satellite uplink systems including encoders, management and control.
Solid knowledge of radio station recording, storage and playback systems.
Ability to lead and supervise engineering contractors and employee(s) toward specific measurable and timely results in a Christ-like manner
Current knowledge of FCC rules.
Excellent oral, presentation and written communications skills; well-developed organizational skills.
Proven ability to plan and perform complex work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work at heights from ladders or similar equipment.
Ability to climb ladders and work in varying weather conditions.
OTHER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
Dependable vehicle and proof of auto insurance.
Requires in-state travel; requires out-of-state travel on an as-needed basis.
Proven self-motivated starter who sets and achieves personal work objectives.

Staff Engineer – Washington, DC

Cumulus Media has an immediate full-time opening in Washington, DC for a Staff Engineer. The Staff Engineer is primarily responsible for supporting and maintaining mission critical audio and information technology equipment in a broadcast environment. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, be self-motivated, and have the ability to learn new duties and skills quickly.
Key responsibilities will include setting up, configuring, and troubleshooting audio equipment; supporting the IT and telephone infrastructure; responding to IT-related problems and questions from employees; and other technical duties such as broadcast remotes. The ability to respond overnights and on weekends to emergencies is a requirement of this position.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Three or more years of experience supporting Windows 7 and Mac OS X operating systems, Microsoft Office, and common computer applications, including internet browsers and document readers.
• Ability to both learn and support mission-critical, industry-specific computer programs.
• Experience with both Android and iOS smart phones and tablets.
• Ability to maintain and repair computer and server equipment, including setting up computers and peripherals, and replacing basic internal components such as memory and hard drives.
• Experience using and troubleshooting professional audio systems, including analog and digital audio equipment.
• Familiarity with digital audio editing software and associated hardware, including professional sound cards and digital audio workstation (DAW) software.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interface with coworkers on a daily basis.
• Ability to lift at least thirty pounds and work occasionally in confined spaces.
• Must be able to respond to emergencies on-site 24/7.
Additional Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Familiarity with TDM-based and analog telephone systems, including POTS, ISDN, and DS-n.

• Working understanding of Ethernet and TCP/IP (hardware, software, protocols, and theory).
• Experience with Linux servers and vmWare ESXi virtualization.

WBFF-Fox45 Baltimore is seeking a Broadcast Engineer!  This individual will be responsible for installing and maintaining video, audio, and other equipment associated with television broadcasting including server-based record and play-out systems, non-linear editors, production switchers, routing switchers, MPEG encoders, decoders, automation, news room computer systems, data networks and broadcast transmission equipment.


RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

·          Provide the engineering design and assist with the building and installation of electronic systems/equipment as assigned.
·         Maintain and repair transmitters (AM, FM, TV, Microwave, Fiber, satellite, etc.), receivers, cameras, switchers, graphic systems, audio equipment, video tape systems, routers, automation/editing systems, intercoms, two-way radios, monitors and display systems.
·         Provide budget information to support the implementation of new systems.
·         Provide technical support to operational users.
·         Consult and communicate with engineering management and other engineers on technical issues as required.
·         Provide specific engineering signal flow diagrams for CAD documentation on all work performed on technical systems.
·         Perform all technical work to engineering standards and practices.
·         Other duties may be assigned.

Other Qualifications and Requirements:

·         A self-starter, able to work efficiently without direct supervision.
·         Be able to work effectively with other departments receiving and communicating instructions via telephone or in person.
·         Be able to read and understand technical materials.
·         Able to set priorities under pressure of deadlines.
